NAIDOC 2017 in Centre. "Our Languages Matter"

03 Jul 2017

 NAIDOC 2017 “Our Languages Matter”.

As local community members we feel its most fitting to identify, respect and celebrate our Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements.   So, we are bringing NAIDOC 2017 to our Centre in a creative and interactive “Happening”.

We have invited everyone in our community (from Dampier all the way to Point Samson). Irrespective of your birthplace, upbringing, job status, religious beliefs, race, age, gender or education. This is for all of us to come together. All the kids are welcome to partake in their artist skills, by painting part a mural on our external walls. Be guided by the likes of Josie Alec and her sisters. (There is even a special place for their hand prints / names to be imbedded as part of the mural. To stay there for years to come).

The intention from our team, is this will provide ownership, pride and belonging for the youth to our centre.  This is a small step however, we need to start somewhere.
