There is something about Chinese cuisine that makes even the simplest dishes taste delicious. But only when it’s prepared just right. Karratha Chinese Garden is one place that you’re guaranteed to find some of the best Chinese food, and owner Thanh loves putting smile on his customers’ faces.
When it comes to choosing what to eat from their extensive menu, Thanh gave us some recommendations for each season. “A curry dish is great for spring; it puts a little spice in your life! An omelette in summer is perfect for every time of the day — breakfast, lunch or dinner. BBQ spare ribs and spring rolls are ideal for picnics and gatherings in Autumn, and a combination long soup will warm you up on a cold winter’s day.”
According to Thanh, Karratha Chinese Garden is most known for their satay beef, honey chicken, spare ribs and sweet and sour pork. But, out of everything on the menu, what would he choose if he could only eat one thing for the rest of his life?
“I would choose steamed dim sims — they’re so simple yet so yummy.”
Customers are always making Thanh smile with their awesome feedback and sometimes interesting orders. He recalled a few that stood out to him.
“We had a four-year-old pipe up once, calling our soup ‘the best soup in the world’. That put a smile on my face. But, in general, seeing customers’ plates empty with big smiles and hearing compliments like ‘nice food, good service and reasonable price’ always perks me up,” he said. “And once, we had an order for chilli beef without the chilli. Say what?!”
When he’s not busy serving up delicious Chinese food, Thanh can be found visiting Jamaica Blue for their great coffee, lovely ambience and delicious chicken avocado wrap. Outside of the Centre, Thanh enjoys playing the guitar and singing to his wife and fundraising for his church.
Thanh has enjoyed owning and operating Karratha Chinese Garden for 30 years. “I love seeing customers sitting back and complaining about how much they ate as they’re enjoying their meal too much.”
So, the next time you have a hankering for Chinese — or even just a delicious meal, head down to Karratha Chinese Garden and say hi to Thanh. With their tasty, freshly cooked food, friendly staff and value for money, you can’t go wrong. Plus, you’ll be supporting a locally owned business. Happy eating!
